The short answer maybe is it really is not. It is more of a view point or attitude toward travel. Now, we happen to love Europe or other foreign countries, but what we talk about applies to travel in your own country or even State or Territory.
So, to be a boomer traveler, one only need be willing to take one step forward and allow the journey be the trip. Now, planning is crucial to allow the right amount of comfort for living but also it provides the security some need in getting off the tour bus mentality.
If you are afraid of theft, crime, foreign languages, foreign customs, and the cultural differences you will run straight into, just trying to buy a soda or coffee in a foreign country, you either should not go at all or as we say, relax and enjoy the ride. But to stay in a customized travel shell with a bus, tour guide, and only venturing out under strict guidance, it is not something you have to do. It is not that hard to go your own way, do your own thing, get from point A to point B with ease, and enjoy it a hell of lot more. And guess what, 9 times out of 10, you save a lot of money to go further and longer.
It does require a little courage! But no more, than your first time doing a lot of things in life. I assume you are a boomer that has his or her struggles, achievements, and successes. Well, all those life experiences have made you more than ready to be a vagabonding boomer traveler in style. Just instead of booking a 2 week all inclusive tour of ____ (fill in the destination), you can travel either solely independent or at least partially independent, by making your own transportation, lodging, and sightseeing plans. It is easier than you think, and the internet has made it almost too easy. You can now access information online to any place on earth, and in 30-45 minutes have a general knowledge of what to see, how to get there, how much it could cost, and most importantly, that thousands of other people probably have been there before you and had no problems and in fact a great adventure.
So, how do you start, and are you the type of person who can do it? The answers are easy, start at the beginning, and if you have read this far, you can and will do it. Boomer style vagabonding is for anyone, no matter what your travel niche might be. Maybe you like Asia, Canada, Europe, Africa, simple trips, complex trips, great lodging is important, great food is more important, adventure is a must. Any of these types of journeys are feasible and practical. You can spend as much or as little money as you wish. That is what is so great about Vagabonding Boomer Style; you do not have to give up any of your comforts, likes, dislikes, or desires when traveling.
