Sounds pretty intense, right.I just like the sound of it. Gloria and I(David) are just a couple of boomers(you know between 1946 and 1964) that have traveled a bit and now want to travel all the time. I have a small business that I am attempting to “remotely” operate from any country(will see).
So, since I have fallen in love with the internet in general, and travel blogs in particular, I convinced Gloria to set up this blog, tell our story, and see if we can give some sensible information to other boomers.
See, a lot of our friends, and people I see in our travels, seem to fall into two general categories. Those that fear the outside world beyond their local area(but do travel) and those that enjoy all aspects of travel. This of course is a huge simplification and generalization, but it makes my point, that a lot of boomers have a difficult time getting out of what I call “the tour bus, the tour group, the organized and systemically travel industry). We have traveled “independently” for the last 30 years and want to bring some of our experiences to other boomers that may want to experience “getting off the tour bus” but just not quite sure how.
When you surf the travel blogs out there currently, there are adventure sites, young people sites, blogs about almost any type of travel for people under 55 or 60. But what about us folks that are still in good health, love to travel, but want to do so in a little more comfort ? That is what this blog is all about. We do not stay in hostels(did you know now they accept older folks?), but then again we do not stay at the Four Seasons either. We call how we travel “vagabonding boomer style”. I know, vagabond has a less than romantic or money wise feel to it.
But our definition is more like this ——
Travelling with the desire and willingness to experience and discover new people, places and things, in a life style that fits your internal comfort zone and baby boomer social, political and cultural foundation.
or this —-
To go to places and meet foreign people in an independent, adventurous, and aware manner, without forsaking your own personal lifestyle goals, abilities and dreams.
or this
Go live like a local, become part another country and culture, but still live in comfort, and style.
So, we plan to give all our readers, a journey through our experience of travelling the world in boomer style. We will give you tips, tricks, do/don’ts, and a whole lot of entertainment along the way. See, Gloria has her style and I have mine. It will become quite apparent to you that even after 30 years of marriage, those styles tend to intersect in interesting ways more times than not.
Enjoy, David& Gloria
